Long-Term Care

Is there a rating system for long term care facilities?

There are two main rating resources available for long-term care facilities, each offering a unique perspective. It’s recommended to utilize a combination of resources to get a comprehensive picture of each facility and make an informed decision. While ratings and reviews can be helpful, it’s important that you conduct your own research and visit the facilities to assess their suitability for your parents’ specific needs and preferences.

1. Medicare Nursing Home Compare

  • This is a federal website run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that provides star ratings for Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing homes nationwide, including Colorado.
  • Ratings are based on health inspections, quality measures, and resident surveys.
  • You can search for facilities by name, location, or zip code and compare their ratings across different categories like quality of care, staffing, and resident satisfaction.

2. Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Long-Term Care Facility Licensing Reports

  • CDPHE conducts regular inspections of all licensed long-term care facilities in the state, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and residential care communities.
  • The inspection reports detail any deficiencies found and the facility’s plan of correction.
  • You can search for facility reports by name, location, or type of care on the CDPHE website.
